Will, Benji Sorrells, WB Wayne McDainels (Calhoun 81) and RWB Sam Turner III (PDDGM,

degree was special not only because it was on top of a mountain, but all the members of the
degree team were dressed as Civil War reenactors. It was a great degree, that also showed
how members of the Union and Confederacy armies might have laid their arms aside to
celebrate the greater good of Freemasonry. It was a TN style degree which is quite different
than an SC 3rd degree. The made a great meal of hamburgers and hot dogs. We will try to
go again next year.

master's tie (click on pictures tab), but most importantly we had a lot of fun and fellowship
with brothers from across the state. The 279th communication will be held in Greenville, SC.
I would recommend that every master mason attend at least one annual communication if
for nothing more than the great feeling of being in the same room as upwards of 700 other
masons.

visited them in September. We had a good meal of salad, spaghetti and meatballs and
garlic bread sticks. When we visited in Sept., there were 12 people, this time there were
about 30. There was one candidate and he was obviously nervous, but he did exactly
what he was supposed to and we all left happy.
October 8 - Greenwood 91
Will Carter, Nelson Brawley Jr, WB Sammy Weber and WB Eddie Porter traveled to
Greenwood 91 to see a 1st degree. When we pulled up to the lodge, we weren't sure if
anything was going on as the parking lot was empty. The one person in the parking lot
was the candidate and he didn't know more than us. When we finally did get inside, everyone
was happy that we came to visit. WB Eddie got to sit in as Treasurer and Will got to sit in as
Tiler. They had light refreshments for the crowd. Their Junior Warden that night was the
current District Deputy Grandmaster for the 11th district, RWB G Walker Moore. The one
thing memorable about their lodge is that their entrance is by the Worshipful Master and not
the Senior Warden. Greenwood 91 was chartered in 1853.

September 12 - Pendleton 34
Will Carter, Benji Sorrells and Nelson Brawley Jr made the long trip to Pendleton, SC to visit
Pendleton 34. They were having a 3rd degree and had a lot of visitors on this night. The
lodge was packed. They had a great meal of salad and baked spaghetti. The genuinely
appreciated the fact we traveled so far to visit them.
September 16 - Cherokee 135
Will Carter and Nelson Brawley traveled to Cherokee 135 to see their EA degree. The work
was very well done. Cherokee is the home lodge of RWB Trent Henderson. They had a good
meal of salad, spaghetti and cake for dessert. Great turnout to support a newly made brother.
September 18 - Poplar Springs 416
Will Carter and Nelson Brawley traveled to see a 3rd degree put on by Poplar Springs. This is
the home lodge of RWB Mark O'Shields. They had 2 candidates and both were extremely
happy for the opportunity to be part of Poplar Springs lodge.
September 23 - Pomaria 151
Will and Nelson traveled down to Peak, SC to visit Pomaria 151. Pomaria is a fairly small
lodge but everyone welcome us as if we were members, just like it should be, and has been
everywhere we've gone. They did great work, and even asked me to be King Hiram of Tyre.
I must have done a good job because they invited us to come back. Great meal of barbecue
sandwiches, chips and cake for dessert.
September 29 - Roebuck 357
Will and Nelson traveled to Roebuck 357 to see a Master Mason degree. They had a good
meal of vegetable soup, chips, cornbread, pork rinds and cake for dessert. Will was asked to
do the Senior Deacon on the 2nd. Although it was my first time, they said I did a good job.
September 30 - Palmetto 19
Will and Nelson traveled to Laurens, SC to visit Palmetto 19 and support their 3 candidates
that were taking their first step into masonry. It's always good to be able to support a brother
as they take their Entered Apprentice degree. All 3 seemed very eager to come back and
and find more light in masonry.
October 2 - Chesnee 294
Will and Nelson traveled to Chesnee to see 4 candidates take their Fellowcraft degree. Had
a great meal of rice, chili, cornbread and banana pudding for dessert. The lecture was great
as it always is. You always learn something new. One brother said if the house is packed for
his 3rd we can load the wagon all the way up!

August 2014
August 2 - Belmont 627 (Belmont, NC)
Will Carter, Benji Sorrells and Nelson Brawley Jr. traveled to Belmont, NC to see how North
Carolina puts on an EA and FC degree. Needless to say it is significantly different than how
we do it in South Carolina.
August 16 - Cave Degree in Kingston, TN
Will Carter and Benji Sorrells traveled to Kingston, TN to see the 43rd Annual Cave Degree.
This year a Master Mason degree was conferred by Whitney 264 in Spartanburg, SC. It is
conferred by a different state each year. There were 218 masons that attended, including our
past Grandmaster Jay Adam Pearson. Twelve states and 71 different lodges were
represented in all. I would recommend that anyone who gets the chance experiences it at
least once.
August 21 - Cliffside 460 (Cliffside, NC)
Will Carter, Nelson Brawley, Jr and WB Sammy Weber traveled to Cliffside, NC to see a
Master Mason degree. They had a very good meal and were very welcoming. The NC 3rd
degree is a bit different than South Carolina's but the lesson is still learned. Upon leaving
they gave us a Cliffside lodge pin and said that no "first time visitor leaves Cliffside empty
handed."
August 27 - Amity 87
Will Carter and Nelson Brawley, Jr traveled to Newberry to visit Amity 87, They always
make us feel welcome when we visit them. They had a great meal; chicken, mixed
mixed vegetables, green beans and chocolate and strawberry cake for dessert. Great work
done by the brothers at Amity 87.
